An ancient rock-cut temple (over 1600 years old) dedicated to Lord Ganesha with a massive idol carved out of rock. One of the oldest temples in Tamil Nadu.
2. Kundrakudi Murugan Temple
A hill temple dedicated to Lord Murugan, offering panoramic views of the region. A popular pilgrimage spot near Karaikudi.
3. Athangudi Palace
Magnificent ancestral homes of the Chettiar community, built with Italian marble, Burma teak, and intricate craftsmanship. Famous for their grandeur and heritage architecture.
4. Athangudi Tile Making Village
Known for handmade, colorful, patterned Athangudi floor tiles, still crafted using traditional methods. Visitors can watch live demonstrations.
A vibrant marketplace selling antique furniture, artworks, brassware, and artifacts, reflecting Chettinad’s glorious past.
6. Chettinad Palace (Kanadukathan Palace)
(The palace is allowed to view only from the outside). This palace was built by Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar in 1912. With so many beautiful ornamental details it took seven years to complete the construction of the palace. This palace exposes the traditional Chettinad architecture.
7. Thirumayam Fort
The fort was constructed in 1687 by Vijaya Raghunatha Sethupathi, the Raja of Ramnad. On the top of the rock is a bastion with cannon of British origin. To the south of this Platform is a natural pond. The fortress is of great historical significance and was an important stronghold of rebel chieftains in the Polygar Wars.
8. Sathyamurthi Perumal Temple
One of the 108 divya desams dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. It's a temple carved out of a hill. The Lod Sathya Murthy is in a reclining posture. The temple is believed to have been built during the 9th century by the Pallavas.
