The temple is a major pilgrimage destination, dedicated to Meenakshi Devi and Lord Shiva. The temple has numerous sculptures and an art gallery in 1000 pillared hall. It usually takes 1-2 hours to visit the entire temple.
2. Narasinga Perumal Temple
This is a cave temple dedicated to Yoga Narasimha Perumal, at the foot of the Yanaimalai hills. The sculpture of Narasinga Perumal is carved out of the hill itself.
3. Kallalagar Kovil
Alagharkoil is one of the Vaishnava Tirupatis in Tamil Nadu, which was worshiped by the Alwars. The temple is surrounded by a large fort, situated under the Alagar hill.
4. Pazhamudircholai
Pazhamudircholai is located upon a hill and surrounded by a dense forest. The temple possesses shrines dedicated to the deities Murugan, Valli, Devasena, and Ganesha. Pazhamudhircholai is one among the 6 prominent abodes of Lord Muruga, called as Arupadaiveedu.
Gandhi Memorial Museum, established in 1959 inaugurated by the former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The building that houses the Gandhi Memorial Museum, is the historic Tamukkam Palace belonging to Rani Mangammal.
6. Thirumalai Nayakkar Palace
Thirumalai Nayak Palace was constructed as a residence for the then King Thirumalai Nayak. This palace is known for its majestic pillars, with height of about 82 feet and width of almost 19 feet.
7. Teppakulam
Teppakulam/Vandiyur Mariamman Temple is situated at a distance of about 5 km from the Meenakshi Amman Temple. Literally, Teppakulam means temple pond mainly used for devotional festivals. The temple was built by the King Thirumalai Nayak. In the centre of the tank there is a Madapam called Maiya Mandapam with Vinayakar temple and garden.
8. Tirupparankundram Murugan Temple
The temple uses rock-cut architecture and is believed to have been built by the Pandyas during the 6th century. The temple is constructed with rock-cut architecture dating back to the Pandya period of 6th century and the life sized sculptures in the mandapas of the Nayaka period during the 16th century.

Excavations have revealed a well-organized settlement with a rich material culture, including pottery with Tamil-Brahmi inscriptions, brick structures, and evidence of an early drainage system. The Keeladi Museum, inaugurated in 2023, showcases over 15,000 artifacts discovered at the site.
The Samanar hills in Madurai have been declared as a historically rich site and protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India. The inscriptions here are believed to be more than 200 years old. Sculptures of Gomateshwara, Mahavira, Yakshi and Yaksha have been found here.
